Jeju's Social Agreement Committee has adopted a recommendation for a management policy that takes into account the individual characteristics of each oreum (오름) and plans to submit it to Jeju Island.

The recommendation was prompted by concerns from residents, particularly regarding some Oreums, or volcanic cones, such as Abu Oreum (아부오름), which, in the past, were used as pastures and exposed their original ridges and craters.

However, due to the proliferation of trees such as cypress and pine brought by the wind, these Oreums have lost their original appearance.

The committee's recommendation includes a shift in policies that consider the unique characteristics of each oreum, as well as efforts to create public consensus through a process of public discussion.

In particular, to restore the landscape of Oreums with unique volcanic features, such as Abu Oreum, the committee has recommended reviewing institutional changes to allow for projects to remove brushwood.

고유의 능선과 분화구를 드러내는 형태였지만
바람 등에 유입된
삼나무와 소나무 등의 증식으로
본래의 모습을 잃었다는
주민들의 문제 제기에 따라 시작됐습니다.

위원회가 마련한 권고안은
개별 오름의 특성을 감안한 관리 정책 전환과
공론화 과정을 통한
관리 정책의 도민 공감대 형성을 담고 있습니다.

특히 아부오름과 같이
독특한 화산지형을 간직한 오름들의 경관 회복을 위해
잡목제거 사업이 가능하도록
제도개선의 검토 추진을 권고했습니다.
