Seogwipo City is moving forward with plans to revitalize the Seogwipo Tourist Theater, based on recommendations by a task force after ten rounds of discussions on how to make use of the site.

The city will first consider preserving the building's original front facade. If preservation proves difficult, the facade will be dismantled and restored, while the interior including the roof be completely redesigned.

As for the remaining stone retaining wall on the northern side, the city plans to preserve it as much as possible through structural reinforcement, given the rarity of its traditional basalt stonework.

After gathering additional feedback on the recommendations at a public forum, Seogwipo City plans to commission the preliminary design next month.

본 건물은
정면 파사드의 원형 보존을 우선 검토하고
보존이 어려울 경우
해체 후 복원하는 한편
내부 공간은 지붕 등을 포함해 전면 재구성할 계획입니다.

또 남아있는 북쪽 석축벽체는
현무암 돌쌓기 방식의 희소성을 고려해
구조보강을 통해
최대한 원형을 보존한다는 구상입니다.

서귀포시는 시민 공개 간담회에서
권고안에 대한 추가 의견을 수렴한 뒤
다음달 중에
기획설계를 발주합니다.
