5. Jeju City issuing more ‘baby birth cards’
Average of 180 per month this year

More local residents are getting identity cards for their infants.

Jeju City says it had issued 1,740 so-called “baby birth cards” through the end of October this year. That’s an average of 180 per month.

The annual total has climbed from 1,490 in 2015 to 2,040 in 2016 to 2,150 last year.

Authorities can issue the cards for children who are 24 months old and younger. They are accepted as a substitute for resident registration to verify identity.

'아기출생카드' 발급서비스가 도민들에게 호응을 얻고 있습니다.

제주시에 따르면 올들어 지난달까지 아기출생카드 발급건수는 1천740건으로 한달 평균 180건이 발급되고 있습니다.

특히 발급건수는 지난 2015년 1천490여 건에서 2016년 2천40여건, 지난해 2천150여 건으로 꾸준히 늘고 있습니다.

아기출생카드는 만 24개월 이하 유아까지 발급되며 주민등록등본 확인 대용으로도 활용할 수 있습니다.
