3. Provincial council questions Jeju Forum’s mission
Forum’s original purpose to promote peace now unrecognizable

The provincial council rebuked the Jeju Forum for its weakening purpose and identity.

Provincial council member Kang Seong-min stated during his 5-minute speech at the plenary session on the 18th, that the forum is losing its identity despite fairly recent efforts of changing its name to “Jeju Forum” in 2012 to promote external growth.

He requested a fundamental improvement of the forum, adding that its original purpose to promote peace is now barely recognizable as only 6 out 28 participating organizations are peace-related.

This year marks the 14th Jeju Forum. The forum was founded in 2001 as part of the “Island of the World Peace Project”.

18일 열린 임시회 본회의에서
5분 발언을 통해

이명박 정부 시절인 2012년 포럼의 외연 확대라는
명분을 내세워 제주포럼으로 명칭을 변경했지만
포럼의 정체성이 흔들리고 있다고 지적했습니다.

특히 그는 올해 제14회 제주포럼
참여기관 28곳 가운데
평화 관련 기관은 6곳에 그치고 있으며
내용도 경제포럼인지
도정의 정책설명 포럼인지 구분이 안갈 정도라며
근본적 개선을 요구했습니다.

제주포럼은 2001년 세계평화의 섬 사업 일환으로 시작된 이후
올해 14회째를 맞고 있습니다.
