Nighttime shell fishing prohibited
Province taking protection measures for fishery resources

The so-called Haerujil (해루질) method which is catching fish and shellfish on the beaches at night-time when the tide is out is restricted.

The provincial government announced restrictions are tightened on the collection of aquatic animals and plants by non-fishermen. New regulations have been implemented from the 7th following a prior notice.

The measure is being taken to protect and manage the fisheries resources.
The fishing time in the village fishing area is limited from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

When catching and collecting fishery at village fishing grounds, the use of specially designed fishing gear such as hooks and diving equipment is restricted. Fisherman must not collect cultivated shellfish, seaweed, or sea cucumbers.

In case of violation, the province will suspend fishing or impose a fine of up to 5 million won.

6. '야간 해루질' 금지…"마을어장 수산자원 보호"

야간에 물이 빠진 해변에서 어패류를 잡는
이른바 해루질이 제한됩니다.

제주도는 이 같은 내용을 담은
비어업인의 수산 동식물 포획.채취 제한 조건을 고시하고
7일부터 본격 시행한다고 밝혔습니다.

또 마을어장에서 수산 동식물을 포획.채취할 때
특수 제작된 갈고리 같은 어구와
잠수용 장비 사용이 제한되고
어업권자가 조성한 패류나 해조류,
해삼 등은 채취할 수 없습니다.

제주도는 이를 위반할 경우 어업 정지 또는
500만 원 이하의 과태료를 부과할 방침입니다.
