The province has begun to discard Mercury-containing wastes stored at the schools.

The Jeju Provincial Office of Education(POE) said it will collect and dispose of more than 2,000 pieces of mercury-containing waste used at schools and institutions in the province with the help of specialized companies.

Mercury waste that is stored in school facilities is often used as laboratory equipment. Thermometers that used to be used in science and health centers are now prohibited from use.




과학·보건실 수은폐기물 내주부터 수거 처분

학교에서 보관 중이던 수은 함유 폐기물이 이번주부터 전량 폐기 조치됩니다.

제주도교육청은 도내 모든 학교와 직속기관에 보유중인 2천백여 점의 수은 함유 폐기물을 전문업체를 통해 전량 수거 처분한다고 밝혔습니다.

학교 시설에 보관중인 수은 폐기물은 보통 과학실이나 보건실에서 실험실 기자재나 체온계 등에 사용되던 것들로 현재는 사용을 금지하고 있습니다.
