Hallasan Mountain’s Y Valley is expected to be designated as a Natural Monument.

The Jeju World Natural Heritage Center announced that the volcanic rock layers and springs of the Eorimok(어리목) Valley are currently under review.

Following a 30-day public notice, the Natural Heritage Committee will make a final decision.

Located along the upper reaches of Gwangnyeongcheon (광령천) Stream, the valley lies 200 meters deep on Hallasan’s northwestern slopes. The site offers a clear view of groundwater flowing between layers of lava.

한라산 Y계곡이 천연기념물로 지정될 전망입니다.

제주특별자치도 세계유산본부는
한라산 어리목계곡 화산암층과 용천수가
자연유산 천연기념물로 지정 예고돼
30일 간의 예고 기간을 거쳐
국가 유산청 자연유산위원회 심의를 통해
최종 지정될 예정이라고 밝혔습니다 .

지정 예고지는
한라산 북서부 광령천 상류에 위치하며
주변 지형보다 200m 가량 깊게 침식된 계곡을 따라
지하 용암층 사이의 불투수층을 경계로
지하수가 흐르는 모습을 직접 관찰할 수 있는 지질 유산입니다.
