Jeju retains ‘Safe Community’ certification for third time
First Asian locality to do so

Jeju has become the first area in Asia to receive the Safe Community certification for a third time.

The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters says the island earned the accreditation based on on-the-spot inspections in March and July by the International Safe Community Certifying Centre.

The island has done particularly well in cutting the number of accident-related deaths. In 2007, when it was first certified, there were 79.1 deaths per 100,000 people caused by accidents. By 2015, that had fallen to just 64 per hundred thousand.

The fire office will draw up a third mid-to-long term comprehensive Safe Community plan beginning next year. Its goal is to improve its efficiency and the personnel involved in the Safe Community project.

제주도가 아시아 최초로 국제안전도시 3차 공인인증을 받았습니다.

제주도소방안전본부는 지난 3월과 이달 초 국제안전도시공인센터 즉, ISCCC 평가위원의 현장평가 등을 거쳐 국제안전도시 3차 공인을 받았다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 제주도는 각종 사고 사망률을 최초 인증 시점인 지난 2007년 10만 명당 79.1명에서 지난 2015년 64명으로 감소시켜 좋은 평가를 받았습니다.

한편, 소방본부는 내년부터 제3기 안전도시 사업 중장기 종합계획을 수립해 안전도시 운영인력과 조직의 효율성을 높여나가기로 했습니다.
