Lawmaker wants to restrict airlines from raising fares
Proposal would require airlines to receive official approval for increases

One of Jeju’s representatives at the National Assembly wants to make it harder for airlines to increase fares for domestic flights.

Democratic Party representative Wi Seong-gon’s proposal would force all domestic airlines to submit their fare increase plans to a special transport ministry committee. The transport minister would have to approve the proposal. Violators could have their operating licenses canceled or their business suspended.

Under the current law, airlines simply need to give notice 20 days before they raise fares.

항공 요금 '인상 제한' 법 개정 추진

국내항공사들의 항공료 인상을 제한하는 법 개정이 추진됩니다.

더불어민주당 위성곤 의원은 국내항공노선 요금에 대해 국토부장관 인가를 받도록 하는 내용의 항공사업법 일부개정법률안을 대표발의 했습니다.

개정안은 국토부장관이 국내항공운임위원회 심의를 거쳐 국내항공노선 요금을 인가하도록 하고, 이를 위반할 경우 면허 취소나 영업정지 등 처벌할 수 있도록 했습니다.

현행법상 국내항공사들은 20일 이상 예고만 하면 항공 요금을 정하거나 변경할 수 있어 이용자들로부터 불만을 사고 있습니다.
