Island Investigations on Club Drugs Last month, a drug trafficking and distribution network involved in selling drugs such as Ecstasy and Ketamine in karaoke bars and foreigner-exclusive clubs in South (경상) Gyeongsang Province was apprehended by the Coast Guard. Amidst a series of drug crimes occurring in clubs and bars nationwide, a similar drug offender has been arrested in Jeju as well. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who was formerly affiliated with a club, has been arrested last month on suspicion of possessing dozens of Ecstasy pills and consuming them. Jeju District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Mr. A on charges of drug possession and consumption, and they have also announced that they are conducting supplementary investigations into individuals who were involved in drug consumption with him. Ecstasy, a new type of drug, is known as a "club drug" as it is primarily consumed by young people. It has a hallucinogenic effect that is three times stronger than that of methamphetamine. INTERVIEW Jo Gwang-won / Jeju Office, Korean Society of Drug Abuse Ecstasy is known to produce hallucinogenic effects that can induce a significant elevation in mood. It is indeed a drug that is commonly used by young people. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has stated that this case is unrelated to clubs, and it is difficult to disclose specific details regarding the case, including the specific charges, as the investigation is still ongoing. According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of newly identified drugs seized last year was 260 kg, which is more than a tenfold increase compared to two years ago. Among them, the quantity of Ecstasy seizures increased by seven times during the same period. With the recent arrest of an Ecstasy drug offender in Jeju, there is growing interest in whether the crimes are linked to related industries, as seen in nationwide cases, rather than being isolated incidents of individual crimes. The investigation results regarding any potential spread of crime to associated sectors have garnered significant attention. 제주에도 클럽 마약?…경찰 수사 확대 지난 달 경남에 있는 노래주점과 외국인 전용 클럽 등에서 엑스터시와 케타민 등 마약류를 판매한 판매책과 유통 조직이 해경에 검거됐습니다. 전국적으로 클럽이나 술집에서 마약 범죄가 잇따르는 가운데 제주에서도 유사 마약 사범이 검거됐습니다. 모 클럽 관계자였던 30대 A 씨가 지난 달 엑스터시 수십 정을 소지하고 투약한 혐의로 구속됐습니다. 제주지검은 A 씨를 마약류 소지와 투약 혐의로 구속 기소했고 함께 투약한 이들에 대해서도 보완 수사를 진행하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 엑스터시는 필로폰보다 환각 작용이 3배나 큰 신종 마약류로 젊은 층이 주로 투약하면서 일명 클럽용 마약으로도 알려졌습니다. <인터뷰 : 고광언/ 한국마약범죄학회 제주지회장> 엑스터시를 투약하면 환각작용을 일으켜서 기분이 아주 상승되는 효과를 누리는 마약으로 알려지고 있습니다. 젊은 사람들이 많이 이용하는 마약으로 보면 되겠습니다. 제주경찰청은 이번 사건은 클럽과는 무관하다면서도 구체적인 혐의점 등은 수사가 진행 중이여서 밝히기 어렵다고 전했습니다. 지난해 관세청이 적발한 신종 마약류는 260kg으로 2년 전보다 10배 이상 급증했습니다. 이 가운데 엑스터시 적발 물량은 같은 기간 7배나 늘었습니다. 제주에서도 엑스터시 마약 사범이 검거된 가운데 개인의 단순 범죄가 아닌 전국 사례처럼 연관 업종으로 범죄가 퍼졌을지 수사 결과에 관심이 모아지고 있습니다.

JCCI estimates \234,000 needed for ancestral rites this year Average total cost drops 0.1% from last year It will cost an estimated 234,900 won to buy all of the items needed to hold ancestral rites for the Lunar New Year. The Jeju Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently surveyed prices of goods for ancestral rites, and the estimate for a four-person family this year is 0.1% lower than last year, when the total cost was 235,130 won. The cost of vegetables and fish has increased, but it does not offset the drop in prices of fruit and processed goods. The JCCI estimates the costs with the assumption that families will purchase 26 items for ancestral rites, including fruit, seafood and vegetables. 설 차례 비용 23만4천900원…전년과 비슷 올해 제주지역 설 차례상 비용은 4인 가족 기준으로 23만 4천 900원 수준으로 조사됐습니다. 제주상공회의소가 지난 13일과 14일 이틀동안 도내 재래시장을 대상으로 조사한 결과로 지난해의 23만 5천 130원보다 0.1% 하락했습니다. 품목별로는 채소류와 생선류 물가가 오르기는 했지만 과일류와 가공품의 가격은 내린 것으로 조사됐습니다. 한편 차례상 비용은 과실류와 나물 채소류, 율류, 해산물 등 26개 품목을 올린다는 가정하에 산출된 가격입니다.

  • 1. Less cars being registered on Jeju Newly registered cars increased by 1% in 2019 The rate of increase of the number of cars in Jeju has decreased compared to recent years. According to the provincial office, at the end of last year, the number of cars registered in Jeju was 387,600, excluding business-owned vehicles. This is a 1% increase compared to the year before, which is much lower than the average increase rate of 6% since 2013. An average of 140 new cars were registered monthly from last July to the end of last year. It is now running out of storage space. Machines are piled up outdoors. This shows the sad reality of local businesses. INTERVIEW Second-hand shop owner My calendar is full of appointments for visiting closed businesses. Even the dog came from a closed shop which faced severe financial difficulties. More number of seniors now eligible for pension Jeju City to secure \130B for pension funds The revised National Pension Act was passed by the National Assembly, and the number of seniors who will receive monthly pensions of up to 300,000 won will increase starting this month. According to the Jeju City Municipal Office, the income criterion for receiving the pension has been expanded from the bottom 20% to the 40% mark. The new number of pension recipients is expected to increase from 40,000 to 43,000 in the city. The office plans to secure 130 billion won to provide pension funds, which will be systematically dispersed starting this month. 어르신 기초연금 월 30만 원 지급대상 확대 기초연금법 개정안이 국회를 통과하면서 이달부터 월 최대 30만 원의 기초연금을 받는 어르신들이 늘어납니다. 제주시에 따르면 기초연금을 지급하는 소득 기준이 하위 20%에서 40%까지 확대되면서 연금 수혜자가 지난해 4만 명에서 올해 4만 3천명으로 늘어날 전망입니다. 이에따라 올해 기초연금 사업 예산 1천 3백억 원을 확보해 이달부터 순차적으로 지급할 예정입니다.

Deputy Superintendent Kyung-hee Lee said in a meeting with reporters on Wednesday that he will strengthen cooperation and support to ensure that private kindergartens run with their primary purpose of education. With the revision of the law, private kindergartens will not be allowed to use funds for causes other than educational purposes. The Jeju Tourism Association projects 218,000 tourists will travel to the island between January 23rd and 27th by airplanes and ferries. That’s a 10 percent increase compared to the year before, when the island had 200,000 visitors during Lunar New Year. A total of 1,100 flights, including 40 special planes are planned to operate at Jeju International Airport during the holidays. 설 연휴 22만 명 입도 전망…전년 대비 10% 증가 다음 주 설 연휴에 귀성객과 관광객 22만 명이 제주를 찾을 전망입니다. 제주도 관광협회는 설 연휴 전날인 23일부터 27일까지 닷새 동안 21만 8천 여 명이 항공편과 뱃길을 통해 제주를 방문할 것으로 예상했습니다. 이는 지난해 설 연휴 입도객 20만 명과 비교해 10% 가까이 늘어난 수치입니다. 제주공항은 설 연휴기간 국내선 특별기 40여 편을 포함해 항공기 1천 1백여 편을 운항할 계획입니다.
